The Yellowjackets finale will be satisfying but sad and have at least one major surprise according to Melanie Lynskey.

With its first season finale fast approaching, Yellowjackets star Melanie Lynskey has teased that the final episode will be satisfying, but sad. Yellowjackets first premiered in November of 2021 and quickly gained a following due in part to its tendency to be unpredictable and keep its audiences on its toes. The series, created by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, follows the story of a high school soccer team who become the only survivors of a plane crash deep in the Ontario wilderness.

Yellowjackets has certainly built a reputation as a show where anything can happen. The story is told by cutting between the soccer team lost in the wilderness and the teammates as adults, remembering what happened to them. Between these two storylines, audiences have been treated to plots that involve Senate races, seances, murder, and even cannibalism.

"I think that there is one huge surprise. I think there's one huge cliffhanger, which is very exciting, something that is teased for the modern day storyline. And I think a lot of things are tied up. There is one thing in it that makes me so sad. But I think it's going to be satisfying." While many fans are almost certainly wondering what will happen next on Yellowjackets, it seems the cast may be as well. Many of the cast have admitted that they enjoy going online to read fan theories. Actress Samantha Hanratty has stated that she herself doesn't "have all the answers" to Yellowjackets' unanswered questions, and therefore looks for clues to what will happen next in the show's fan theories.

Happily, it seems the cast and fans of Yellowjackets alike will not have to wait long to see where the story goes next. Yellowjackets has been renewed for a second season since mid-December of 2021, about halfway through its ten-episode run. This is not surprising of course, as the show has received such acclaim. After its premiere, the show boasted a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes and was even nominated for best drama series at the Critics Choice Awards.
