Did the girls make a meal (ahem) of her death?
Jackie had the hardest time in the wilderness. The former Yellowjackets captain never quite gave in to the brutality of her surroundings. She remained too preoccupied with her prior queen bee status to chip in with chores, turned her nose up at the makeshift meals served up by the rest of the group , and she insisted on keeping one foot firmly in her old life, wistfully dreaming of homecoming and the boyfriend she'd not yet lost her virginity to.
Many had spent the episodes wondering whether she was to be the catalyst that would spur the others girls on towards the inevitable cannibalism, while others presumed that she might have been killed off in a much more gruesome and violent way, mirroring the girls' increasingly dire circumstances.Instead her death was eerily peaceful.
As so much of the show is open to interpretation, at first you can't help but wonder whether these sequences are all in Shauna's head. They are hanging out alone in the meat shed, and Jackie goes from being her old Prom Queen self – just as she had been in the present day, when Shauna paid a visit to her shrine-like teenage bedroom – to narrating Shauna's own internalised feelings about how things played out between them.
