Something to be aware of
The Met Office has today issued a yellow weather warning after predicting "unseasonably" strong winds. Parts of Nottinghamshire, including sections of Rushcliffe borough and Newark and Sherwood district, will be hit by powerful winds on Saturday, July 15.
The forecaster has said an unusually windy day is likely between 9am on Saturday and 12am heading into Sunday. People in affected areas should expect some delays to road, rail, air transport are likely, short term loss of power and other services is possible and damage to trees or temporary structures such as marquees, tents & inflatables, could occur.
The Met Office also provided guidance for those impacted, including how to avoid injury and property damage. People should check for loose items outside of homes, such as bins, pots, garden furniture and sheds, and plan how you could secure them in high winds. The weather service also advised windy weather can cause delays and make driving conditions dangerous.
If you must drive, you can do this more safely by driving slowly to minimise the impact of wind gusts, being aware of high sided vehicles/caravans on more exposed roads and giving cyclists, motorcyclists, lorries and buses more room than usual. The meteorologists added people should stay inside as much as possible during high winds.
