The Yellow Lake Fire, burning east of Mill Hollow Reservoir on Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest grounds, expanded dramatically from 3,000 acres to nearly 8,0

00 acres on Friday.

Forest Service officials reported that red flag conditions on October 4 created significant challenges for firefighting efforts, with high winds, unseasonably warm temperatures, and dry conditions contributing to several spot fires igniting north of Highway 35. The fire is spreading toward Soapstone Pass and moving east toward Rhodes Canyon, burning south parallel to Mirror Lake Highway without impacting the roadway.Red Flag Warnings issued for areas of Utah amid unseasonably high temperaturesAs of Saturday morning, the fire was estimated at 7,798 acres, a significant increase from its previous measurement. A total of 423 firefighters are working to control the blaze.

On October 5, conditions are expected to worsen, with additional high winds likely to shift the fire’s direction. Crews will continue suppression efforts, focusing on protecting structures and containing the fire within an area most suitable for mitigation. A forest closure is in effect for regions of both Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest and Ashley National Forest affected by the fire.
