Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen on Monday repeated June 1 as the date when the U.S. may be unable to pay its bills in the absence of a debt-ceiling increase.

“I am writing to note that we still estimate that Treasury will likely no longer be able to satisfy all of the government’s obligations if Congress has not acted to raise or suspend the debt limit by early June, and potentially as early as June 1,” she said in a letter to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and other congressional leaders. McCarthy and other leaders are set to meet with President Joe Biden at the White House on Tuesday to discuss the borrowing limit.
