It's time for the New York Yankees to get serious about improving the club this offseason and the club could land both a star slugger and pitcher.
New York won just 82 games in 2023 and now is preparing for an extremely important offseason. The Yankees already have made it known that they will be looking into making organizational changes this offseason and it will lead to roster additions and subtractions. New York's biggest needs are a powerful bat in the middle of the lineup and at least one or two starting pitchers to shore up the rotation.
"That process aside, the Yankees have some obvious needs, most notably a left-handed hitting outfielder," Short said."Impending free agent Cody Bellinger has been mentioned most frequently, though the price tag will be considerable after his impressive turnaround with the Cubs this past season. "In addition to lineup needs, look for the Yankees to fortify their rotation. A reunion with Jordan Montgomery is a possibility, but the Yankees should also be one of the main suitors for standout Japanese right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto."
Bellinger, Montgomery, and Yamamoto all have been linked to the Yankees on numerous occasions at this point. The Yankees will be busy and it's clear they will making real changes after missing the playoffs. Bellinger was linked to the club as a trade target during the season, although he ended up staying in Chicago.
If the Yankees could land Bellinger along with either Montgomery or Yamamoto, it would be an extremely successful offseason.
