AL Cy Young frontrunner Gerrit Cole gets an A+ final grade, but Carlos Rodon, Luis Severino and Domingo German earned their F's.They spent $162 million in the winter bringing in Carlos Rodon, a big left-hander who had the lowest ERA of any major-league starter from 2022-23, both All-Star seasons.
By Opening Day, the rotation had more questions than answers. Montas underwent surgery, Rodon and Severino got hurt, German and Schmidt were in as was rookie Jhony Brito.Other than Cole being consistently great, the rotation didn’t pan out anywhere close to what the Yankees expected. The Yankees’ lone trade-deadline add, Middleton pitched better after leaving the White Sox. Right after changing teams, Middleton trashed his former club, saying White Sox players ruled the roost to the extent a pitcher took a nap in the bullpen during a game. For the Yankees, he pitched around a few walks to post a low ERA. He’d like to re-sign with the Yankees and the interest likely will be mutual if the price is right.
