The Yankees drafted 6-foot-4 right-hander Drew Thorpe in the second round in 2022 out of Cal Poly.
Yankees prospect Drew Thorpe was 14-2 with a 2.52 ERA with 182 strikeouts in 139.1 innings this year pitching for the low-A Hudson Valley Renegades and double-A Somerset Patriots.
Debuting as a pro this year, Thorpe had some good and bad starts through mid-May pitching for the High-A Hudson Valley Renegades. After that, he was dominating almost every time he pitched, through early August for the Renegades and then for almost two months pitching Double-A ball for the Somerset Patriots.14-2 record, 2.78 ERA in 23 starts. In 139.1 innings, he struck out 182, the most in minor-league baseball.
Thorpe beat out two other finalist: Cubs prospect Cade Horton, a righty was 4-4 with a 2.65 ERA in 21 starts in Low A, High A and Double A; and Padres left-handed farmhand Robby Snelling, who was 11-3 with a 1.82 ERA in 22 low A, High A and Double A starts. Thorpe probably will start next season in Double-A, but he’ll likely be in Triple-A at some point and maybe even debut for the Yankees.
