Max Fried spun six scoreless innings while allowing just two hits, striking out four Giants batters. Two of the four baserunners Fried allowed came in the first inning alone, dominating through his first start with just 86 pitches.Following Fried’s start, Brent Headrick appeared in relief, tossing a scoreless inning, with Jake Bird and Camilo Doval ending the game with scoreless frames. The Yankees took advantage of the Giants’ ace Logan Webb, delivering nine hits through his five innings of work, with Webb giving up six earned runs. The strongest inning came in the second, where the Yankees scored five runs directly off pure hitting. Jose Caballero drove in the first Yankees run of the season thanks to a double, followed by a two-run single from Ryan McMahon to make the score 3-0. The inning didn’t end there. Trent Grisham continued to add on damage, driving in two more runs on a triple to make it 5-0.The most impressive part of the game? The Yankees scored seven runs through the first five innings, while Aaron Judge struck out four times. The back-to-back ALfinished his first game of the season with an 0-for-5 performance, becoming the third-ever Yankee to strike out four times on Opening Day — joining Giancarlo Stanton and Oswaldo Cabrera. Everyone in the lineup besides Judge tallied a hit on the night, with Stanton and catcher Austin Wells both delivering two each.
