Yankees’ Clay Holmes honored and surprised to make All-Star team for 2nd time

Closer Clay Holmes will join Aaron Judge and Juan Soto in representing the Yankees at the All-Star Game in Texas later this month.

Clay Holmes may have a 6.75 ERA in his last 17 outings, but he pitched well enough to begin the season to earn a second trip to the All-Star Game.was named to the American League All-Star team on Sunday evening and unlike his first trip to the All-Star Game in 2022, this was more of an unexpected nomination.

Holmes didn’t give up an earned run until May 20, his 21st outing of the year. The sinkerballer was inducing ground balls and weak contact consistently and at an elite rate. Some relief appearances were more of a nail-biter than others, but he was getting the job done. Aaron Judge and Juan Soto will also be in the American League clubhouse with Holmes. The superstar outfielders will be in the starting lineup.
