'Focusing on the financials of the transaction, the Cubs could be interested in gaining some payroll flexibility by offloading Hoerner in exchange for Cortes. Though he posted a 3.77 ERA in 2024 and gave up a game-winning grand slam in his sole World Series relief appearance, Cortes has been an All-Star and might be a decent back-end rotation option for the Cubs in 2025.And the Yankees could see Hoerner as a significant upgrade over Torres.
