The New York Yankees have lost their bench coach to their crosstown rivals.
Mendoza served as Aaron Boone's bench coach for the past four seasons and filled in for him in 24 games as manager due to multiple ejections and suspension.
Mendoza, 43, has served as a coach in the Yankees' organization since 2009. He has never managed at the major league level beyond filling in for Boone.The Yankees are already in the hunt for a hitting coach, and reportedly extended an offer to Detroit Tigers assistant hitting coach James Rowson, according to The New York Post and Newsday.
