Last month, Xiaomi launched a new Bluetooth speaker that quickly overshadowed the competition, particularly the Redmi phone, in terms of value proposition. Priced at INR 3,999 (approximately $45), the Xiaomi Sound Outdoor delivers impressive performance for its price. The speaker is compact enough to fit in any backpack, ideal for trekking or outdoor adventures. Weighing 597 grams and measuring 196.6 x 68 x 66mm, it's designed as a portable travel companion.
The IP67 dust and water resistance rating, coupled with the rubberized lanyard, make it perfect for outdoor use. The speaker boasts several buttons, including three on the lanyard for power, Bluetooth, and link. Volume controls and a play/pause button, which doubles as a call pickup button, are located on top. The built-in microphone allows for hands-free calling, with clear voice transmission.Setting up the Xiaomi Sound Outdoor is effortless. It automatically enters pairing mode when switched on for the first time. You can pair two speakers using the Link button to create a stereo output. A multi-speaker mode provides a standard mono mix for setups with more than two speakers. While Xiaomi claims you can link up to 100 Sound Outdoor speakers, I was unable to test this.Pairing two speakers is simple, involving just pressing the Link button.
