It's [SPOILER], right?

In a surprise reveal, Marvel is bringing one founding X-Men hero forward in time, permanently stranding their teen self in the present. While fans don't yet know which hero will be chosen, there's reason to assume it will be one hero in particular, and even that they may be the star of an upcoming 2024 series.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT In an exclusive reveal from AIPT, fans just learned that Original X-Men #1 will revisit the O5 X-Men, in a story that will leave one of them stranded in the present as a teen hero. A one-shot celebration of X-Men's 60-year anniversary, the comic is coming in December, and will see the team facing off against a version of themselves from another reality who have become villains.

Original X-Men Sends the O5 on a Multiversal Mission THE OG 5 ON AN ALL-NEW ADVENTURE! Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Beast, Iceman and Angel - the first and greatest heroes to bear the X-Men name - once traveled into their own futures and reset the course of history. Now another multiversal mystery calls them forth. When the dust settles, one hero will remain, trapped in the world as we know it.

Close X-Men's Beast Is the Obvious Choice While all of the O5 X-Men were a fun presence in the present, there are only three real contenders for who'll stay: Jean Grey, Cyclops, and the Beast. The adult Iceman is currently enjoying a major bump in popularity with his own series, the Astonishing Iceman, and confusing his narrative with a teen self would only hurt his rising star. At the same time, Marvel has rarely known what to do with one Angel, let alone two.

Will Original X-Men Set Up 2024's New X-Men? The timing of the story also implies that the upcoming New X-Men team teased at SDCC will spin out of this adventure - the book is coming in 2024 with a sneak peek in November, lining up with when the new/old X-Men member will return as a young hero. With Ms. Marvel also recently revealed to be a mutant, it makes sense that the New X-Men team will build on the solid foundation of Kamala Khan and whichever O5 team member ends up in the present.
