Although the show continues the story just months after the original series finale, the creators understand that many viewers have grown up and want their childhood tales with a touch of maturity, without losing the original tone. The executive producer explained, 'One of our guiding principles when making the show was to try to give the audience the same feelings they had when they watched the original series.' The themes remain true to X-Men, but the drama is heightened to emulate the feeling many of us had as kids watching the show.'
