Although the show continues the story just months after the original series finale, the creators understand that many viewers have grown up and want their childhood tales with a touch of maturity, without losing the original tone. The executive producer explained, 'One of our guiding principles when making the show was to try to give the audience the same feelings they had when they watched the original series.' The themes remain true to X-Men, but the drama is heightened to emulate the feeling many of us had as kids watching the show.' He also mentioned that the entire team was a fan of the original, 'We all have X-Men in our DNA,' so they knew the Saturday morning vibe and incorporated it into the style, influencing the writing, voice acting, and look of the show. 'We were not trying to create something new,' reassured Winderbaum, 'Actually, we were trying to create something old.'
