Rob Liefeld, the co-creator of X-Force and Deadpool, recently shed some light on the abandoned Fox project, revealing intriguing details about the film that could have been. According to Liefeld, the live-action X-Force movie was indeed in development, with a script penned by Drew Goddard, who was also set to direct. The film was to feature Stryfe, Cable's arch-nemesis and a formidable supervillain from the comic books.
Liefeld's comments came in response to a fan's hope that Marvel Studios would eventually release an X-Force movie. While the project was ultimately scrapped after Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox, Liefeld hinted that several other MCU projects moved forward despite the cancelation. Fans curious about the project's progress were told that Goddard had completed the script, and several elements of the film had been confirmed.
Fox still owned the X-Men film rights during the development phase, and the movie was initially planned to focus on Deadpool and Cable, with Ryan Reynolds, Simon Kinberg, and Lauren Shuler Donner attached as producers. Liefeld co-created X-Force with Fabian Nicieza in 1991, and the team's first appearance was in The New Mutants #100. Unlike the X-Men, X-Force members were more aggressive and often employed violent methods to deal with threats.
The team's popularity led to a solo ongoing series, with Liefeld's run lasting for 12 issues before he left Marvel Comics to co-found Image Comics alongside other comic book icons
