Bishop McDevitt wide receiver Jontai Quick missed much of the 2025 season with an injury. His return to the lineup has given the Crusaders a boost in their quest for back-to-back state championships.
Bishop McDevitt’s Jontai Quick runs against Mechanicsburg in their District 3-5A football playoff game. Nov 7, 2025. Sean Simmers ssimmers@pennlive.comYet, there’s one guy who’s continuously mentioned as the offense’s X factor; junior wideout Jontai Quick.
“ absolutely ,” said McDevitt head coach Jeff Weachter. “He’s a great route runner. I mean, he had almost 1,300 receiving yards as a sophomore.”Quick has established himself as a strong option for McDevitt’s offense since he arrived on the scene with 32 receptions, 409 yards and seven touchdowns in his freshman campaign. He broke out during his sophomore season leading the team with 66 receptions,1,297 yards and 16 touchdowns as the Crusaders captured a PIAA Class 5A championship. Quick’s junior season, however, hasn’t been as productive due to a high ankle sprain he suffered in week four against Cedar Cliff. He was sidelined for the next two games before returning against Cumberland Valley. Yet, his return to the lineup was short lived as he reinjured his ankle and missed the remainder of the regular season. Quick enjoyed his team’s success as he was away from the field, but he yearned to be alongside his teammates “It was difficult,” Quick said. “Not being able to play and watching my team succeed without me. But, I was cheering them on and keeping high energy on the sidelines. It all translates, even if I’m not playing.” While his energy may translate, Quick’s absence completely changed everything for the McDevitt offense. “Without having ,” Weachter said. “Teams started to roll their coverage to Howard on the back side. It hurt the whole passing game… He means a lot to our offense.”Quick allows guys like Holton, Gage Ruth and Ish Palmer one-on-one opportunities on the outside, and lighter boxes for Jones-Davis and Jerome Larue Jr. to run against.“ definitely makes my job a lot easier,” Williams said. Having a reliable target out there. I’ve been playing with him since fifth grade. It makes it really easy to know that I have a guy who I can trust as a teammate, friend and brother.” Quick missed all but 16 quarters in the regular season, but he was healthy enough to return for the playoffs. Uncoincidentally, Williams had his two best outings throwing the football with Quick in the lineup, throwing for a career-high 265 yards against Solanco and 250 yards against Peters Township. Williams, Quick and the passing game are on a heater and they’re going to need all hands on deck for their rematch with Roman Catholic in the PIAA 5A championship on Friday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. Back in the lineup, and the most healthy he’s been since week three, Quick is ready to show just how much of an X-factor he is.Rymir is a high school sports reporter for PennLive.
