After over 100 years of lying on the seabed of the coast of England, the bell of the destroyer USS Jacob Jones has finally been recovered.

Lost to a German U-boat in 1917, the bell of the American USS Jacob Jones has finally been raised off the coast of the Isles of Scilly., was finally raised after over 100 years. The bell was raised by a team of British divers from the ship’s wreck off the coast of Britain. The recovery was made to prevent scavengers from taking the bell from the wreck in the future.-class American destroyer, was sunk by a German U-boat that torpedoed her in 1917.

“We flipped it upright so we could read the name and confirm the identity,” Dom Robinson, one of the divers, told the newspaper.
