Margot Robbie as Catherine and Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights

Summary Are you ready for love to drive you mad? That's the question at the center of Emerald Fennell's latest film, Wuthering Heights. Her loose adaptation of the iconic Emily Brontë novel stars Margot Robbie as Catherine Earnshaw and Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff, whose love for each other threatens to tear down everything around them.

The film also stars Hong Chau, Alison Oliver, and Shazad Latif. Ahead of the film's release, Collider sat down with Robbie and Elordi to speak about the movie. They share with Collider why Cathy and Heathcliff's love story makes for drama, as well as how they were able to match each other's energy for intense scenes. Plus, Elordi reacts to his recent Oscar nomination for his role as the Creature in Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein. His nomination for Best Supporting Actor is only one of nine nominations for the Netflix movie. You can watch the full interview in the video above, or you can read the transcript below. Margot Robbie Explains the Obsession in Cathy and Heathcliff's Passionate Relationship "They love completely with every fiber of their beings, and they also hurt as hard as they love." COLLIDER: Congratulations on Wuthering Heights, and the two of you stepping into this iconic couple of literature. What did it mean for you to find the balance between the passion and obsession that Catherine and Heathcliff have for each other? MARGOT ROBBIE: Well, there's not a whole lot of balance in their passion and obsession. It's really off the deep end. I think that's what makes them so watchable and exciting to play. There's really no moderation. It's everything. They love completely with every fiber of their beings, and they also hurt as hard as they love, which makes for a great drama. Do you like that?ROBBIE: Five stars.ELORDI: You're so good at answering questions. With the two of them, because there's so much passion there, there is a lot that you both give and take in your performances. Was there a particular scene that was extra challenging in order to get there to capture what's going on between the two of them? ROBBIE: I never found it hard to get there because Jacob brings so much intensity when he's acting that it's actually, I don't know, it makes me lift my game and match his energy, and he comes with a lot of intensity. I feel like I was just feeding off it. ELORDI: A great scene that, to me, felt like a setup for the film in a way was the axe-cutting scene when the first time you've, , been gone. It's one of the first times that they really voice to each other without... It's the beginning of saying something indirectly. It's the first time that he says with his absence that I'm upset, and she comes looking for him to say,"I want to tell you these things," and it's the first time that what they don't say sort of punishes them, I guess. That scene felt like we had to work to find that push and pull and the sort of subtext of the whole thing. Because that defines their relationship for the rest of the film. I can't believe I'm sitting across from two Oscar nominees here. Jacob, how are you feeling?Has it settled in? Are you still riding that high? How are you feeling?ELORDI: Yeah, yeah. Just hate that I have to be here with these people and to talk about my craft.ELORDI: No, honestly, it's been the best week ever. It's been such a treat, and it's so nice to come and be with friends and people that celebrate, and that's nice. I think I've got time for one more question. I love that Isabella has her own room full of ribbons. If you could collect something that would warrant filling up an entire room, what would you collect? Did you have a lizard growing up?ROBBIE: At the moment, slowly, one room of my house is becoming more and more... I do a lot of watercolor painting now. I've started sewing, as well. I am turning 95. Honestly, all these hobbies have started taking up space, so I've got a bit of a watercolor/sewing section encroaching on the house. I wish I could dedicate a room to it.
