WTO director-general warns of impact on trade if Israel and Gaza conflict were to spread to the rest of the Middle East.
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, director-general of the WTO, voiced concerns over the impact on global growth and trade if the ongoing conflict from the Israel-Hamas war were to spread to the rest of the Middle East.
In October, the WTO lowered its trade growth forecast for 2023 due to a"fall in aggregate demand across the board." In an interview with CNBC aired on Monday, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala said:"If it spreads beyond where it is now, to the rest of the Middle East, there will be an impact."
