California Republicans say the Newsom administration is “creating winners and losers” in its distribution of coronavirus relief funds to smaller counties
In an effort to support those county supervisors, California’s seven-member GOP congressional delegation on Friday asked the U.S. Treasury Department’s Inspector General to audit California’s approach to distributing the relief money.
“The county supervisors I heard from are all scared to death of speaking out against him for fear their funds will be held up,” said Rep. Tom McClintock, one of the Republicans who signed the letter. The letter says California is “creating winners and losers,” among counties with its approach and may be violating the“Unfortunately, the State of California continues to defy congressional intent by threatening to withhold critical federal pandemic response funds from smaller localities,” Republican Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who hails from California, said in a statement.
