Utah Highway Patrol officials said Salt Lake City police were pursuing a suspect when they entered the freeway early Saturday morning. UHP troopers were called to assist as there were multiple reports of a wrong-way driver. The wrong-way driver then crashed into a vehicle. There were multiple other vehicles at the scene which were initially thought to have been hit as well, however officials now believe there were just two involved in the main crash. Officials said several people were injured and transported to a hospital. It is unknown at this time how many were injured and their current conditions.The crash forced the closure of all lanes on I-80 to allow investigators to survey the scene. The area has not yet been cleared, but officials anticipate lanes should reopen soon, saying the sun is making it easier to investigate. The suspect is being investigated for driving under the influence.
