Two wrong-way car crashes left three people dead on Saturday: the first on Interstate 15, and the second on Mountain View Corridor.
At around 5 a.m. on Saturday, a white Ford Focus entered I-15 on the 600 South off-ramp traveling the wrong direction in the northbound lanes, theThe car crashed into a blue Toyota FJ Cruiser near 900 South, and the drivers of both vehicles were declared dead at the scene, authorities said. Police are investigating whether impairment was a factor in the collision.
Later Saturday at around 11 p.m., a silver Kia traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Mountain View Corridor hit a white Volkswagen at the 6800 South intersection, said Detective Kevin Mallory with Unified Police. The Kia’s headlights were off when it crashed into the Volkswagen, he said. The driver of the Kia — a 29-year-old man from West Valley City — was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver of the Volkswagen was taken to a hospital with injuries that weren’t life-threatening, Mallory said.
