A wreath was laid in Sir Bobby Charlton's seat before Old Trafford fell silent in honour of the Reds and England icon who died on Saturday aged 86

Manchester United players and fans fell silent in the culmination of an evening of remembrance for Sir Bobby Charlton. The Reds and England icon, considered by many to be the greatest-ever player to hail from this country, died on Saturday aged 86.

A survivor of the Munich Air Disaster who went on to win the European Cup. World Cup and Ballon d'Or, Sir Bobby was a constant presence in the club's director's box in the years after his playing days, and before the game, a wreath was laid in his seat by the club's CEO Richard Arnold.

A book of condolence which was opened on Sunday will again be available for fans to sign in person in the International Suite at Old Trafford from 10am tomorrow after access was paused at 4pm this afternoon due to the matchday. There was also a minute's silence at United under-19s match against Copenhagen at Leigh Sports Village in the UEFA Youth League earlier in the day, which the club said was 'a fitting tribute given his long association with our academy.'
