This British-owned island is home to 800 people - and thousands of items of plastic pollution. The litter has been traced back to countries including Japan, China and South Africa.
Ascension Island in the South Atlantic is a British Overseas Territory According to the report, the experts found 1,000 pieces of plastic waste on one beach and over 7,000 pieces in total during the expedition.
The most common types of plastic found were bottles and broken down fragments, possibly from packaging.
