John Fife, a World War II veteran, recently celebrated his 100th birthday with two separate parties, surrounded by family and friends. Fife, who resides in Clevedon, North Somerset, in the U.K., marked the milestone on December 26, 2024, according to news agency SWNS. He first celebrated with loved ones at a hotel and later with friends and neighbors at Coleridge Court, a McCarthy Stone Retiring Living development. Fife attributes his longevity to his active lifestyle and positive outlook.

Born and raised in Edinburgh, Fife served in the Royal Air Force during World War II as a wireless operator and air gunner with Coastal Command Air/Sea Rescue. Following his military service, Fife embarked on a career in the civil service with the Post Office Savings Bank. He and his wife, along with their two sons, relocated to Glasgow in 1966 where he played a key role in establishing a new headquarters for the Savings Bank, now known as National Savings & Investments in the U.K. Fife received recognition for his contributions, even being presented to Queen Elizabeth II during her visit to the department's headquarters in 1970.He retired from the Civil Service in 1984 and moved to Clevedon to be closer to his sons. Even at 100, Fife remains active. He enjoys daily walks, attending church, and completing jigsaw puzzles. Since moving to Coleridge Court in 2022, he has made new friends and engaged in various activities. When asked about his secrets to a long life, Fife emphasized the importance of making decisions and taking action, as well as helping those less fortunate. He also lauded medical advancements throughout his lifetime and cited the smartphone as a particularly significant invention in his 100 years
