World Urges End to Fighting in Sudan Sudan
Fighting in Khartoum was sparked on April 15, 2023 - between members of the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces .
General Abdel-Fattah Burhan of the SAF and General Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo of the RDF, joined forces to stage a 2021 coup that returned the country to military rule. The two men have allegedly since, turned on each other amid squabbles over power-sharing in the new government. reported that internal and local efforts and negotiation initiatives aimed at containing the conflict between the SAF and RSF commanders camed to a halt, with the leaders refusing to communicate.
