World number one tennis player Jannik Sinner tested positive for a banned steroid while competing in an international tournament and had his points stripped, however, no ban has been imposed on the Italian athlete. The International Tennis Integrity Agency concluded that the tennis star's fitness trainer purchased an over-the-counter product to treat a cut on his finger.
An investigation uncovered that Sinner had inadvertently been exposed to the banned substance through skin-to-skin contact with his physiotherapist. "I will now put this challenging and deeply unfortunate period behind me. I will continue to do everything I can to ensure I continue to comply with the ITIA's anti-doping programme and I have a team around me that are meticulous in their own compliance,” he said."Anti-doping rules have to be very strict to be effective.
