Yevgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, a married couple who were world champion pairs figure skaters, were aboard the American Airlines plane that crashed into the Potomac River in Washington on Wednesday night, according to Russian state media. Shishkova and Naumov, who reportedly lived in the United States since at least 1998, were known for training young ice skaters.

Their son, Maxim, a singles skater who competed for the United States, was also feared to be on the plane, as reported by Russia’s TASS and RIA news agencies. Maxim had been competing in the US figure skating championships in Wichita, Kansas from January 20-26, according to the event’s website.Russia’s Mash news outlet published a list of 13 skaters, many of whom were the children of Russian emigrants to the United States, who were believed to have been on the plane. Inna Volyanskaya, a former Soviet Union skater, was also reported to be on board, TASS said. The crash occurred after a mid-air collision between an American Airlines regional passenger jet and a US Army Black Hawk helicopter near Reagan Washington National Airport.
