KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 13 — Traffic congestion at RFID lanes is expected to ease with the addition of 12 new lanes, to be in place by mid-April, said Works Minister Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi.

Nanta Linggi said that he had met up with Touch 'n Go Malaysia, the Malaysian Highway Authority, and PLUS Malaysia this morning to get clarification on chronic complaints of vehicle back-ups at toll plazas nationwide. “I have ordered them to take action as soon as possible to address the problems as well as ensure the safety of those involved.

“We have reached an agreement and PLUS Expressway Berhad has agreed to add on RFID lanes for user efficiency. We will start with 12 lanes to be installed by mid-April,” he said.RFID, or radio frequency identification technology, for toll payments, was first introduced in Malaysia in 2018 but the implementation has been less than smooth, with many complaints of traffic congestion and lack of seamlessness.
