A Queensland childcare centre where a man suffered a fatal snake bite is under investigation by workplace safety officials. Jerromy Brookes, 47, was bitten multiple times on his left arm while attempting to remove a snake from the Townsville premises on Tuesday afternoon. He died in Townsville Hospital after going into cardiac arrest at his home in Deeragun.
“The call was made by the patient’s wife, who then commenced CPR as the patient went into cardiac arrest,” Queensland Ambulance Service acting district director Paula Marten said. “The information provided to us was that the gentleman had been bitten in a different location and attended back to his residence, where his wife had immobilised his arm and wrapped it, when the onset of the symptoms occurred.” Brookes was taken to Townsville Hospital in a critical condition but died soon after.
