Research reveals that workers of all ages face ageism and age discrimination in today's workplace, and it's holding businesses and employees back from success.

from resume and career advice service MyPerfectResume, 99% of workers over the age of 40 reported ageism in the workplace. This includes fielding ageist stereotypes, bullying and pressure to conceal their age. The survey results shed light on concerning biases that not only undervalue the most experienced employees, but also undermine business results.

Ageism is a significant worry for those looking to make a job change as well. Job seekers report concerns about how their age might negatively impact their ability to get hired. An AARPfound that 74% of people over the age of 50 believe their age will be viewed negatively by hiring managers and poses a barrier to landing a new job. And one-third of those surveyed said they were worried that AI could negatively impact their job security. Unfortunately, their concerns aren’t without merit.

By depriving a team of the full spectrum of skills, experiences and expertises, ageism inhibits success, ingenuity and synergy. When a workplace is bogged down with age-related biases, it loses out on the many benefits a multi-generational workforce can bring. After all, it’s much more difficult for a company to thrive amid homogeneity.
