This little-known childcare scheme could give an extra cash boost to working parents
Many working families could get up to £500 to help towards the costs of summer childcare during the school holidays – thanks to a 'little-known' scheme. 1.3 million parents are eligible for the scheme, yet only 500,000 claim the cash.
Tax-free childcare works by giving parents extra cash when they pay into an online childcare account for their child. But your childcare provider must be signed up to the scheme before you can pay them – and you can benefit from tax-free childcare.'You can get up to £500 every 3 months for each of your children to help with the costs of childcare. This goes up to £1,000 every 3 months if a child is disabled .'
Can I get tax-free childcare alongside other help? You can get this help at the same time as your 15 or 30 free hours childcare. If you claim Universal Credit and childcare vouchers, these will also stop if you apply for tax-free childcare. 'Really substantial money' Martin Lewis has also issued a plea to parents ahead of the summer holidays to apply for the help.
