Workers across Ireland will be newly entitled to payment up to €110 a day under a new scheme coming into effect on January 1, 2023.
This will be a legal minimum which ensures that your employer will pay you 70% of your normal pay up to a maximum of €110 per day.There will be some restrictions to this, including that employees must be working at least 13 weeks with their employer before they can get statutory sick pay.
Additionally, your employer can have a more generous sick pay scheme, but they cannot give you less than the statutory amount.These sick days can be taken as consecutive days or non-consecutive days and will run during the calendar year, from January 1 to December 31.Workers’ sick leave payment must be paid at your normal daily rate. This includes any regular bonus or allowance which does not change from week to week. However, this excludes overtime or commission.
If your pay changes from week-to-week, your sick pay is the average of your pay over the 13 weeks before you are on sick leave. For example, this would include regular bonus payments or allowance.
