Labour has promised to make flexible working the default for all workers
Workers could ask their bosses for a four-day week under new plans being considered by the government. Laws are reportedly being planned by Labour which would give employees new rights, such as a ban on zero-hours contracts. The Daily Telegraph has reported this morning that a system of “compressed hours” could be part of these plans. This would let an employee work their contracted week’s hours in four days rather than five.
Labour’s changes to employment law has been labelled as the ‘new deal for working people’ and is being led by Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner, who visited Southport during the general election campaign in July. The party pledged to submit draft plans to parliament within 100 days of the election, which is in mid-October. However, the Conservatives have criticised the plans.
