A worker was trapped inside a 54-inch pipe at a water treatment plant in Arlington.

A worker trapped in an underground pipe at a water treatment plant in Arlington was rescued Monday.

Rescue crews extricated the man just after 10 a.m., speaking to him throughout the process, according to the fire department. Photographs provided toshow responders trying to reach him using ladders and other rescue equipment. The Pierce-Burch Water Treatment Plant, 1901 Lakewood Drive, is one of the city’s two treatment facilities. The plant is undergoing renovations, including the replacement of several sections of the water pipe. Pierce-Burch is not currently treating water.
