Workday, a prominent provider of human resources software, is reducing its workforce by approximately 1,750 employees, or 8.5%, as part of a strategic restructuring plan aimed at supporting its growth initiatives, particularly in artificial intelligence.

Workday, a leading provider of human resources software, is streamlining its operations by reducing its workforce by about 1,750 positions, representing 8.5% of its total employees. This strategic decision, announced by CEO Carl Eschenbach in a memo to employees, aims to support the company's ongoing growth initiatives, particularly in the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence.

\Eschenbach emphasized that the current economic landscape presents a pivotal moment for businesses, as they adapt to changing work dynamics and leverage the transformative potential of AI. Workday anticipates that this shift will create new avenues for expansion and innovation. The company plans to notify the majority of affected employees on Wednesday. In his memo, Eschenbach acknowledged the difficulty of the situation, urging employees to prioritize their well-being and offering support for those navigating this transition. Workday is also planning to optimize its physical footprint, exiting certain office spaces while investing in strategic locations to enhance its global reach. \While the current restructuring involves workforce reductions, Workday intends to continue hiring in specific areas and regions over the next year. The company estimates that the restructuring will result in charges ranging from $230 million to $270 million, primarily covering severance payments, employee benefits, and related expenses. Laid-off employees in the U.S. will receive a minimum of 12 weeks of pay, with additional weeks based on their tenure. Affected employees in other countries will be offered packages aligned with local standards. Workday's decision to downsize aligns with a broader trend of layoffs across the tech sector, as companies like Intel, Cisco, and Apple have also made workforce reductions in recent months. This wave of restructuring reflects the industry's efforts to adapt to evolving consumer demands and prioritize investments in AI-driven technologies. Workday is scheduled to release its full fiscal year 2025 earnings later this month. In the third quarter, the company reported a net income of $193 million and revenue of $2.16 billion, demonstrating continued financial strength
