.Woolworths supermarket has announced details of a new trial which will see 500 extra cameras placed on shelves throughout a store. 7NEWS

Credit:“We’ve recently begun a trial of new camera technology at the store to assist our teams by reducing manual processes and with replenishment tasks, such as real-time inventory management and restocking prioritisation.

“This is expected to improve product availability throughout the day for all our customers, not just at regular intervals. “We’ll listen to feedback from our Wetherill Park customers and team members over the coming months before assessing our next steps.” If a customer’s image is taken, it will be silhouetted out by the technology so they cannot be identified.understands that the cameras may take images of customers inadvertently, but the technology does not allow shoppers to be identified if recorded.

If a customer’s image is taken, the customer will be silhouetted out via the cloud server and the store team will only be able to view the information about stock on the opposite shelf.Signage notifying customers about the trial will be located at the front of Woolworths Wetherill Park, as well as throughout the store.
