Woolworths has hired Anthony Albanese’s former chief of staff, while Coles has a specialist well-known in C-suites and Canberra’s corridors of power.
Facing mounting pressure to do something about rising costs, Mr Albanese used his first major speech for 2024 to announce a 12-month inquiry scrutinising supermarket practices and pricing led by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.
In his 15 year-stint in politics, he was Mr Albanese’s chief of staff in the Rudd-Gillard-Rudd era, chief of staff to Queensland Treasurer Cameron Dick, and held a similar role with former NSW deputy premier Andrew Refshauge.Jaimie Lovell
