Retired Richmond star Jack Riewoldt has revealed the lengths he went to as he tried to convince Dustin Martin to stay put before the club’s premiership breakthrough.
In Riewoldt’s book, ‘The Bright Side’, the spearhead revealed he even called a memorabilia expert to try and prove why Martin should remain at the Tigers. “I won’t ever know but that was myself and Shaun Grigg who were desperate to make him see the value in him being a Richmond premiership player compared to – and take this with a grain of salt and it is not meant to be disrespectful – being a North Melbourne premiership player,” Riewoldt told the
Martin’s eventual decision to remain at the Tigers proved a legacy-defining one, with the 32-year-old now a three-time premiership player and three-time Norm Smith medallist.
