Senator Simon Birmingham admitted he would vote against the Voice to Parliament if the wording remains unchanged, after revealing he would not actively campaign for his party's opposing stance nor resign over his beliefs.

The senior frontbencher remained tight lipped when speaking to Sky News Australia about which way he will vote in the upcoming referendum.

In the wake of the comments Senators Bridget McKenzie and Alex Antic both told Sky News Australia thatThe Liberal Party dictates that frontbenchers are bound to support its opposing position on the Voice, while backbenchers are allowed to stray in opinion. “I want to see change in this and a changed approached before we get to the point of voting, otherwise I won’t act contrary to the position we’ve taken,” he said.

“I do think it’s a bad thing that the government has got us to a position through an expansionist approach to the Voice and where we could see a referendum fail or at the very least be a closely divided outcome.
