🔴 Women are reporting that they are giving birth in hospital rooms without midwives present, a childbirth expert has warned
Ms Cordery told: “I think that what we have seen across many services in the NHS over a number of years is a chronic lack of staff.
Referring to the deterioration in positive experiences between 2019 and 2022, Katherine Hales, National Coordinator, Association of Radical Midwives, said: “72 per cent isn’t really enough by any stretch of the imagination so for it to go down is obviously very serious. Ms Hales said that while technology enables midwives to monitor the vital signs of pregnant women during labour even when they’re not in the room, this “is not good enough”.Midwives and doulas working outside the NHS have reported that the state of maternity care has prompted a surge in the number of women seeking their help and advice.
