The woman is in grave condition and the girl is in critical condition, authorities said.

Chicago Fire Department paramedics responded to the fall around 1 p.m., fire department spokesman Larry Langford said. Witnesses saw the woman threatening to jump from the Harrison Street bridge, and cars stopped on the expressway, he said.One motorist said he saw the woman come over the bridge’s rail holding the arm of the child as he exited his car. Then he saw the woman and girl both fell to the roadway below, Langford said.
A Chicago police spokesperson confirmed Monday afternoon the department had responded to a call for service at the location, but said they did not have further information to share at the time.
