A female motorist was wounded in an officer-involved shooting early Sunday after she allegedly tried to run down an Alhambra police officer before fleeing the scene, authorities said.
The driver, who suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, and her female passenger, who was injured when their vehicle crashed, were both transported to a local hospital for treatment, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The unidentified women are in their 20s. The shooting occurred about 3:30 a.m. in the 2000 block of West Mission Road, according to the Sheriff’s Department, which is assisting in the investigation.Alhambra police officers were patrolling near a local storage facility when they “contacted the suspects about a burglary investigation,” according to a Sheriff’s Department statement. It appeared one of the units at the facility had been burglarized.
During the initial contact, the suspects accelerated their vehicle toward one of the officers, and that is when the shooting occurred, the Sheriff’s Department said. The suspects’ vehicle sped eastbound on Mission Road in Alhambra, then turned southbound on 6th Street and eventually struck a retaining wall, ending the pursuit, the department said.The Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau asked anyone with information regarding this incident to call 890-5500.
