French doctors will grow a new nose on Donna Chisholm's arm and transplant it onto her face if she can secure funding for the procedure.

A SCOT who lost her nose to an aggressive cancer wants the NHS to rethink its refusal to fund an astonishing operation abroad.

The refusal to provide funding, which Donna cannot afford herself, is especially galling as the NHS can still pay for treatment in a foreign country but only if the treatment is also available in the UK and subject to long delays. Relatives and friends have offered to contribute if Donna is forced to go down the fundraising route, something she has not ruled out although she feels strongly that the NHS has a moral obligation to her.

She and colleague Doctor Benjamin Vairel carried out the first ever procedure on a French woman aged 50 last year and have more recently carried out the same procedure on a first male patient. Donna currently wears a prosthetic nose to go to work but is extremely self-conscious in social situations.
