Salt Lake City Police were investigating two separate crashes just blocks apart from each other that left multiple roads closed in the Central City neighborhood

Salt Lake City police on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2024, were investigating a fatal crash in the area of 700 South and 700 East when a second crash happened just on the next block. The two incidents left closures in place, and drivers were told to expect delays lasting "several hours" while the fatal incident was being investigated.

A woman walking on the sidewalk in Salt Lake was killed after a driver lost control and hit a parked car. The crash happened in the area of 700 South and 700 East in the Central City neighborhood Wednesday morning. Officials with the Salt Lake City Police Department said the car was traveling northbound on 700 East when the driver lost control and struck the other vehicle.

"The impact then pushed the parked car into a woman walking on the sidewalk, killing her," police said in a statement.Police said there was a separate crash nearby at 800 South and 600 East. Details about that crash were not available."Northbound traffic on 700 East from 800 South to 700 South will be closed for several hours," police said. "Drivers in the area of both crashes should expect delays.
