A woman nearly lost $3,000 as a phone scammer was impersonating a Bexar County Sheriff's Office ranking deputy.
The Bexar County Sheriff's Office is warning people to be wary of scam phone calls after someone attempted to steal $3,000 from a woman by posing as a deputy. The call was made Tuesday by a person who identified himself as a ranking member of the sheriff's office named ' Sgt . West Anderson ' and later ' Lt. Eric Colbert ' from the sheriff's office, authorities said in a social media post.

So, she called her bank to cancel the payment from her bank account, authorities said. While she narrowly avoided being scammed, the sheriff's office warns that others have not been as fortunate. The sheriff's office said they only execute warrants by showing up in person. They will never contact someone by phone demanding a payment for a warrant.
