SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio - A 21-year-old woman was shot by an Akron police officer early Friday morning, after allegedly shooting another woman, Akron police said.
According to Akron police, the shooting happened at the Oasis Bar in the 600 block of N. Howard Street around 3 a.m. Police were called to the bar after a 21-year-old woman shot another 21-year-old woman, critically injuring her.Officers said the witness had followed the suspect on foot after the shooting and identified her. Officers said they noticed the suspect had a gun and chased her on foot to a parking lot in the 30 block of E. Cuyahoga Falls Ave.
Police said the woman was shot during the foot chase. Officers said they immediately rendered first aid until EMS transported her to Summa Health Akron City Hospital where she is listed in stable condition. The officer involved in the shooting, an approximately two-year veteran, was not injured and per departmental procedure, has been placed on paid administrative leave.Agents with the Bureau of Criminal Investigation will now handle the investigation and a separate internal investigation will be conducted by the Office of Professional Standards and Accountability.
