Investigators alleged Allen-Bailey shot Geda, stole his car, then left him to die in the street.
A Seattle woman has been sentenced to prison for killing a rideshare driver in 2023 and driving his car around the city for several days, including to a hair appointment. Neiana Allen-Bailey, 20, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the killing of 52-year-old Amare Geda, who was working as a rideshare driver at the time.
King County Superior Court Judge Haydee Vargas sentenced Allen-Bailey to 20 years in prison. The sentence was lower than prosecutors requested but higher than what the defense had sought. During a sentencing hearing on Friday, Geda’s family members spoke about the impact of his death. Prosecutors also played a song in court written by Geda’s 10-year-old son in tribute to his father. “I wish I could have stopped my dad from going to work that night,” the song’s lyrics said. “Wherever you are, Dad, I hope you are safe.”1st Avenue South near Walker Street in Seattle's SODO neighborhood in August 2023. Seattle police arrested her after finding Geda's stolen car near Denny Park days after the murder.In court, defense attorneys called a doctor to testify about Allen-Bailey’s reported drug use at the time of the killing. The doctor said Allen-Bailey reported abusing alcohol and drugs, including Xanax, Percocet, mushrooms, and tequila, before killing Geda. Geda was a well-known rideshare driver in the Seattle area who worked with a drivers' union and served as a mentor to others. He was also a leader in his church.“He was the type of individual who cared about you and showed love.
