A family pet also was killed in the fire in West Orange.
A family pet also died in the fire while the homeowner escaped the blaze on his own, a township spokesman said. He was hospitalized as well for smoke inhalation.
The fire, which broke out in the basement of a home on Valley Way shortly before 4:30 a.m., took about two hours to bring under control. The woman was unresponsive when firefighters reached her on the second floor, where she was trapped. First responders gave her CPR and she regained a pulse while en route to Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, authorities said.
While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, it’s not considered suspicious. The house is uninhabitable, the spokesman said. Our journalism needs your support. Please subscribe today to
